Material & Finish Samples
Choose the right material, color, patina, and finish before production begins.
WS&BCo. offers a broad range of finish options for stainless steel, bronze, marble, fiberglass, and other custom sculpture materials. This guide is intended to help clients, designers, architects, developers, and project teams compare common finish directions during the design and approval process.
Because natural materials, handcrafted finishes, patinas, polishing methods, lighting conditions, and display screens can all affect appearance, the examples and finish names below should be treated as visual references rather than exact color guarantees. For custom projects, the final approved drawing, written finish specification, and any approved physical or production sample will control.
Stainless Steel Finishes
Stainless steel can range from highly reflective mirror surfaces to softer brushed metallic finishes and decorative plated tones. Finish selection can dramatically change the sculpture's character, reflectivity, maintenance profile, and relationship with the surrounding architecture.
- Polished Mirror Finish — high-reflectivity contemporary surface with a crisp, premium appearance.
- Polished Brass Mirror Finish — reflective gold-toned finish designed for a warmer luxury look.
- Brushed Stainless Steel — directional satin-metal appearance with reduced reflectivity.
- Brushed Gunmetal Gray — deeper gray metallic tone with a refined architectural character.
- Brushed Steel Gray — neutral industrial-gray metallic finish.
- Electroplated Stainless Steel — decorative plated finish available in selected tones depending on project requirements.
- Brushed Almond Gold — warm champagne-gold appearance with a softer brushed texture.
- Brushed Titanium Gold — richer metallic gold tone suited to contemporary luxury projects.
- Brushed Bronze — stainless-steel construction with a warm bronze-inspired finish.
- Brushed Rose Gold — warm pink-gold metallic finish for statement interiors and modern installations.
Best suited for: modern sculpture, public art, hotel and resort installations, corporate spaces, luxury interiors, plazas, landscape features, and architectural focal points.
Bronze Patinas & Finishes
Bronze develops exceptional depth through patination. Depending on the chemical treatment, polishing, sealing, environment, and aging process, bronze can range from warm traditional tones to deep blacks, gray finishes, and aged green patinas.
- Classic Bronze — traditional warm bronze appearance that highlights sculptural detail.
- Patinated Brass — warm brass-inspired patina with aged character.
- Patinated Taupe — subdued neutral brown-gray finish with a contemporary feel.
- Mint Green Patina — aged verdigris-inspired finish associated with naturally weathered bronze.
- Patinated Black — deep dark patina that creates strong contrast and a dramatic silhouette.
- Charcoal Grey — sophisticated dark-gray finish between traditional bronze and black patina.
Bronze patinas are handcrafted and may display subtle differences in tone, highlights, shading, and surface character. Exterior bronze will also continue to respond naturally to weather and environmental exposure over time.
Natural Marble Options
Natural marble is selected for its color, veining, mineral structure, translucency, and ability to hold fine carved detail. No two blocks of natural stone are identical, which means every marble sculpture has its own character.
- Natural White Marble — classic light stone with an elegant, timeless appearance ideal for figurative and architectural carving.
- Natural Grey Marble — cooler stone tone with natural gray movement and contemporary architectural appeal.
- Natural Beige Marble — warm neutral stone well suited to estates, gardens, fountains, hospitality, and traditional architecture.
Natural veining, mineral markings, tonal variation, small inclusions, and differences between stone blocks are inherent characteristics of genuine marble and are not considered defects.
Fiberglass Colors & Decorative Finishes
Fiberglass provides exceptional flexibility for custom color, high-gloss finishes, matte finishes, decorative effects, branding, pop-art concepts, oversized forms, and lightweight installations.
Popular color directions include:
- Black
- White
- Brass
- Chocolate
- Baby Blue
- Dove Grey
- Forest Green
- Mocha
- Orange
- Violet
- Pear Green
- Rose Red
- Apricot
- Pink
- Charcoal
- Icterine Yellow
Custom colors may also be developed for qualifying projects based on design requirements, brand standards, reference imagery, or approved color specifications.
How to Select the Right Finish
When selecting a material or finish, consider more than color alone. The best result depends on the sculpture's location, lighting, viewing distance, surrounding materials, maintenance requirements, and the overall design intent.
- Indoor vs. outdoor installation: environmental exposure can influence finish selection and long-term appearance.
- Natural vs. artificial light: reflective metals and colored surfaces can look significantly different throughout the day.
- Nearby architecture: stone, glass, wood, concrete, landscaping, and building finishes should be considered together.
- Maintenance: mirror-polished, painted, patinated, brushed, and natural-stone surfaces each have different care requirements.
- Viewing distance: monumental outdoor pieces often require stronger finish contrast than smaller interior sculpture.
Physical Samples & Finish Approval
Depending on the material, project scope, and production requirements, physical samples, finish references, stone selections, patina approvals, or color approvals may be available before final production.
Availability, sample cost, shipping, lead time, and approval procedures vary by project. For major custom commissions, architects, designers, developers, hospitality groups, municipalities, and commercial clients may request finish coordination as part of the project-development process.
Important Color & Material Notice
Colors displayed on phones, tablets, and computer monitors can vary because of screen settings, lighting, photography, and image processing. Natural stone, bronze patinas, brushed metals, polishing, paint, fiberglass finishes, and handcrafted surfaces can also vary from one production run to another.
For that reason, digital images should be used as a design reference only. Final production should be based on the approved project specifications and applicable sample approvals.
